The Palestine Film Institute is pleased to announce Palestine’s participation for the first time at Cannes Film Festival with a Pavillion at the Pontiero International Village. This participation at the Festival, which takes place from May 8 to 19, 2018, is a significant step that reinforces Palestine’s status on the map of world cinema, following a significant presence of Palestinian films at the prestigious festival over the past decades.
This important event is organised by the Palestine Film Institute and funded by the Palestinian Ministry of Culture in partnership with the French Consulate in Jerusalem. The Palestine Film Institute, a professional body that supports cinema productions for and from Palestine, will facilitate networking opportunities for Palestinian filmmakers during the festival and will work on promoting Palestinian films. The institute will organize a number of events that showcase Palestine highlighting the filmmaking sector and its various components. It will also produce and distribute relevant materials and will screen trailers of Palestinian films at the pavilion for the duration of the festival. The Palestinian pavillion will be an opportunity for the Palestinian film institutions and production companies to network with producers from around the world and secure possible funding and cooperation opportunities.
Earlier this year, in cooperation with “Producers Market” at Cannes Film Festival, the Palestine Film Institute launched an open call targeting films on Palestine in the development phase. Ten films were chosen by the jury to participate at the festival’s Producers Network. The jury consisted of: Adriek van Nieuwenhuyzen, head of the Industry office of IDFA, Rasha Salti, Researcher and Commissioning Editor of La Lucarne at Arte France, Rula Nasser, film producer, Lina Bukhari, the head of Cinema Department at the Palestinian Ministry of Culture, and Mahmoud Abu Hashhash, Director of the Culture and Arts program at A. M. Qattan Foundation.
Five fiction films and five documentaries were chosen by the jury. The fiction films are : “A Respectable Family” by Ismahane Lahmar, “Barzakh” by Laila Abbas, “Dessert Dogs” by Ihab Jadallah, “In Vitro” by Larissa Sansour and “Where did I leave my face” by Ramzi Maqdisi. The five documentaries are: “Displaced in Heaven” by Khaled Jarrar, “Mayor” by David Osit, “Stateless” by Mohammad Jabaly, “The Devil’s Drivers” by Daniel Carsently and Mohammad Abugeth, and “Unbowed” by Nehad Khader.
The Institute is also organizing one-to-one meetings for each of the selected filmmakers and their projects with the participating producers as a way of supporting and promoting those projects in order to secure the needed resources for production and distribution, while setting the ground for future collaborations with film professionals from around the world.
The Palestine Film Institute (PFI) is a structure that supports film productions from and for Palestine, through providing development and consultancy, increasing accessibility to funding, and connecting film talents and experts. The PFI is rooted in the tradition of political cinema, independent film practice, and the commitment to film as a tool of social change.

تعلن مؤسسة الفيلم الفلسطيني عن أول مشاركة رسمية لفلسطين في مهرجان كان السينمائي الدولي ممثلة بجناح فلسطين في المهرجان الذي يقام ما بين ٨-١٩ أيار. وتشكل هذه المشاركة نقلة نوعية لتعزيز مكانة فلسطين على خارطة السينما والثقافة وخاصة ان على مر العقود الماضية كانت هناك مشاركة لافتة للانتاجات السينمائية عن فلسطين في هذا المهرجان رفيع المستوى.
وتشارك فلسطين في المهرجان برعاية وزارة الثقافة الفلسطينية وبالشراكة مع القنصلية الفرنسية بالقدس ومؤسسة الفيلم الفلسطيني التي تتولى مهمة تنظيم الجناح الفلسطيني والتعريف بالمنجزات التي حققتها السينمائية الفلسطينية وتسهيل عقد اجتماعات مع متخصصين في قطاع السينما للتشبيك والتواصل مع منتجين سينمائيين دوليين في المهرجان. كما تعمل المؤسسة على تنظيم مجموعة من الفعاليات وتوفير مطبوعات وملصقات تروج للسينما الفلسطينية وعرض مقاطع لافلام فلسطينية بشكل مستمر في الجناح، واتاحة الفرصة أمام مؤسسات السينما وشركات الإنتاج الفلسطينية لتنظيم فعاليات للتعريف بإنتاجاتها وبرامجها أمام رواد المهرجان.
وكانت مؤسسة الفيلم الفلسطيني بالتعاون مع سوق المنتجين في مهرجان كان قد فتحت باب المشاركة في السوق أمام أفلام في طور الإنتاج عن فلسطين من خلال إطلاق دعوة عامة لتقديم مشاريع. وقامت المؤسسة بتشكيل لجنة تحكيم تتكون من ادريك فان نيوهويزن،مديرة المنتدى في مهرجان امستردام الدولي للفيلم الوثائقي، و رشا السلطي، باحثة و قيمة و أحد محرري تلفزيون آرتيه، و رولا ناصر، منتجة افلام، و لينا بخاري، مديرة قسم السينما في وزارة الثقافة، و محمود ابو هشهش، مدير برنامج الثقافة و الفنون في مؤسسة عبد المحسن القطان.
قامت اللجنة باختيار ١٠ مشاريع افلام للمشاركة منها خمسة أفلام روائية هي: "عائلة محترمة" لأسمهان الأحمر، "برزخ" لليلى عباس، "كلاب الصحراء" لإيهاب جاد الله، "في المختبر" للاريسا صنصور، "أين تركت وجهي" لرمزي مقدسي. أما الأفلام الوثائقية فهي: "نازح في الجنة" لخالد جرار، "العمدة" لديفيد اوسيت، "بلا دولة" لمحمد جبالي، "سائق الشياطين" لدانيال كارسينتي ومحمد أبو غيث، “لا يقهر" لنهاد خضر. وسيتم الترويج لهذه الأفلام وإتاحة الفرصة لتوفير الموارد اللازمة لإنتاجها وتوزيعها وخلق فرص للعمل عليها مع صناع سينما من العالم.
بالاضافة الى ذلك ينظم سوق المنتجين في مهرجان كان برعاية مؤسسة الفيلم الفلسطيني حفل استقبال في يوم ١٥ مايو بانجازات السينما الفلسطينية و انتاجاتها و شكر كل الذين دعموا وساهموا في تطوير هذه السينما من خلال المشاركة بالإنتاج و التوزيع، و من خلال تقديم الدعم المالي و المعنوي و المشورة على مدى تاريخ هذه السينما.
مؤسسة الفيلم الفلسطيني هي جسم داعم للإنتاجات السينمائية عن فلسطين. توفر المؤسسة الاستشارة والتطوير اللازم للافلام وتقدم نصائح حول التمويل والتشبيك مع المواهب والخبراء السينمائيين. تؤمن المؤسسة بتقاليد تاريخ السينما والممارسات السينمائية المستقلة والسينما الملتزمة بكونها اداة للتغيير الاجتماعي.
